Over two million Brazilians use Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as their primary form of communication, but few have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The web series “Tetelestai” seeks to change this reality by presenting the narrative of the Story of Redemption in Libras.
The series covers 24 key stories from the Bible, now translated into Libras with the help of the Brazilian Bible Society and the Instituto Expressão Surda (Institute of Deaf Expression). This adaptation is essential because the complete Bible does not yet exist in Libras, as is the case in many other sign languages around the world.
To ensure greater receptivity, “Tetelestai” features two deaf presenters, Flávio and his wife, who are full-time missionaries and pastors of a deaf church in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. The presence of deaf presenters is crucial, as it significantly increases the interest and identification of the deaf community.
With this initiative, “Tetelestai” offers the deaf community the opportunity to discover God’s plan of redemption in their own language. After all, God also speaks sign language.
