Finishing Old Testament Teaching

February 17th, 2012

We are super excited about this phase of Light in Action. Up until now we have been laying a lot of ground work in getting ready to film all of the episodes. Now we are in the phase of filming all of the teaching part for the rest of the series. Seven teaching sessions filmed and five more to go! Wooohooo! The last episode was about the tabernacle and the sacrificial system. It also covered the Bronze Snake! We filmed it in a desert about an hour away from where we live.

Oh my goodness…. It is hard to put into words how it felt to being standing in the middle of absolutely sweeping, cinematic landscape. To be looking into the camera and picturing Chinese university students, Cambodian children, Arabic families… to understand the depths of the magnitude and weight of the words we were speaking and the potential of the LIGHT and LIFE they carried….. To be explaining how the Lamb was examined by the high priest to guarantee that it was indeed perfect and without defect and blemish, to describe that innocent lamb taking the penalty of death in the place of the guilty sinner that he might live….. to think that in the next episode in a few weeks, as we get into the New Testament, we are going to be teaching that JESUS IS THE LAMB, the promised Messiah who came to lay down His life to pay our sin debt and rescue us from death and give us life!!

Three words come to mind in describing how one feels on location as we film: Solemn Adrenaline Rush.

We just implore you to please battle for us in prayer. We long for your prayers that we as a team would continue to be completely united (it has been incredible! How we praise God for our team) that we would be abiding in Christ’s life, renouncing any and all attempts at fleshly striving or vain glory. That we would know God’s perfect balance in all areas of our life. That we would press on!

Filming On Location: Abraham, Isaac, Hagar & Ishmael

February 15th, 2011

Latest photos from on location at UFRN Escola Jundiaí, in Macaíba, Brazil. With the truck packed and read to go the night before, we got up at 5am to head out by 6. It was raining, and we got set back about an hour, but we made the 20 minute trek to the property of a local universities agricultural campus. (UFRN Escola Jundiaí). Setting up a large biblical era tent in mud & gravel with wind and rain showers proved quite an interesting process, but eventually the tent was up props were in place, and actors (and donkey) arrived on site.

On Location Filming Episode 6:Deliverance – pt 1

August 15th, 2010

With God’s help we have been able to begin the filming of the main teaching of episode 6:Deliverance. This episode is going to focus in on the Deliverance that came to the enslaved Israelite people in the land of Egypt. You’ll get to see the power of God as He shows Himself to be the only true and living and all-powerful God.

We are pushing forward to focus more on filming the base teaching of all the episodes since a series is most beneficial if you can watch the entire series! AND, my beautiful wife Cynthia is now pregnant with our sweet baby number three! So, we needed to film this episode before our little one started growing too big!

Again, our alarm clocks were set for 3:30 a.m. to be on site for sunrise. Here was one morning doing the river shot. Actually God had better plans than we did for these shots. The sun really never shone bright that morning, which was perfect, because these shots are going to become “night shots” as the blood of the passover lamb is being placed on the doorways!

Here’s some more stills of our adventures.

The Filming of Provision – pt3

August 6th, 2010

This is the final bloggage of our filming of Provision. Here’s a couple more videos on sight. This first one is about once you actually scout a location and give it a shot from the script you then have to go and film it! Here’s one shot from Provision. Joel’s getting a better feel for the shot and how he wants the camera movement to be. The early morning sunshine is so beautiful. Not to mention also the amazing palm trees behind me(Arlen) that you can’t see. This shot was talking about Abraham and Isaac as they were climbing Mount Moriah.

So what would you do while you wait for sunshine in order to film? All of our shots are done in sunlight. So we can’t shoot unless we have sun. Brian, Jocelyn, Cynthia, Ana and Joel were waiting around one morning for sun and here’s what they decided to do.

Now that this episode is all filmed the video is going to be set aside for a bit (maybe a trailer might sneak out sometime). Now comes the process of gathering actors and props to make the truths of the Bible even more vivid and the reality of these historical events more so.

The Filming of Provision – pt 2

August 6th, 2010

“Pedra da Boca” is this rocky, mini mountain park that is gorgeous. Of course the whole time we were blown away and thanking God for such an amazing place to film at. Well, from Ana Cassia’s amazing little camera :) (which will explain alot of the portuguese that you will hear) here’s a couple little videos of some of the day to day of filming.

THE SCOUT: Checking out places, sun angles and ideas. Here’s “kinda” the Light in Action process of doing that! Dependent on HIM and having fun in the process. You’ll see us taking pictures and getting an idea of the scene through the eye of the camera and seeing how the different locations work out.

THE HIKES: It was fun, hard and a work out and soo worth it! Some of the shots we even had to carry the equipment up the location the afternoon before, then hike back up the next morning in the dark! Then, go back down with all the same equipment. Our trail guide Brian, decided also that we should go down another way… it was shorter but you’ll have to watch the end part of this video to see how fun it was!

It’s a privilege to be able to explain God’s eternal plan of rescuing mankind from their sin in such wonderful surroundings that also cry out “Eternal and Divine Creator”.
